Chef Diane’s passion for food can be traced back to her childhood. Diane was the youngest of three children and the only daughter of an Italian mother, who was an excellent cook. She always had a tremendous food presence in her life. “Food was the way we celebrated in our house.” Everyone especially looked forward to the Easter holiday because this is when the traditional “Sunday sauce” would be made; this sauce took all day to make. Then mom would make lasagna and there would be meatballs, Italian sausage, pork chops, and the much-coveted bracciole. This was one of her favorite holidays.
Growing up in Boston, Diane had the opportunity to experience some great restaurants and cuisines. She would then go home and experiment to recreate the flavors. She still loves to do this today.
After moving to the Northern Virginia area more than 16 years ago (when restaurant choices were few) she realized how much she missed the flavors of home. The diversity of foods in Boston was extensive. You could go to Chinatown for Dim Sum, The North End for Italian, and the Waterfront for its famous seafood. This is when she realized her love for food. She was determined to bring the flavors she grew up with to her new home. Diane created her own catering service, Buffet Catering, LLC in 1995.
By launching Cornucopia, Diane hopes to bring her cooking expertise into the homes of busy Northern Virginia families. Her goal is to bring families back to the dinner table. This allows her to help busy families eat home cooked meals, like the kind that she grew up with.
Chef Diane’s loves every aspect of food from tending her herb garden, preparing simple to the most complex meals and even food shopping… if you can believe it! She takes great pleasure in menu planning for her clients, and testing new recipes. Her all time favorite place is in the kitchen.
Diane has a degree in Hospitality Management and holds a Food Manager Certification through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. She also attended the Istituto Professionale Aberghiero, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and received instruction on traditional Ligurian and Genoese Cuisine.
Currently, Diane is focusing on Cornucopia Personal Chef Service and furthering the personal chef experience to her clients. She is licensed, bonded, and insured, and also a member of the Personal Chef’s Network (PCN). She still occasionally provides service for small in home dinner parties, and she truly has a love for cooking.
